Private Residence in Putney, London

This was a residential project, a renovation of a large family house in Putney, London.

We worked closely with Michael Veal of Michael Veal Design to develop bespoke pieces for this fantastic contemporary family house, located in Putney, offering great views of the river Thames at the end of the garden.

"The house had been radically modernised by the previous owner and it lacked any character. The brief from the client was to add that missing layer and give the house some personality."

- Michael Veal

One of the most interesting pieces we made for this project is the large, leather-wrapped cocktail cabinet. It also happens to be Michael's favourite piece. He felt inspired by the 19th century steamer trunks from Louis Vuitton and Goyard as they were so cleverly designed with hidden compartments and drawers that were perfect for travelling. The cabinet has a concealed refrigerator, a hidden drawer and a pull-out shelf offering space for ice buckets, shakers and any other accessories. The piece is upholstered in a beautiful grey and silver herringbone-patterned leather from Moore&Giles. The interior is lined with a grey stained Asia Maple and it is finished off with polished stainless steel fittings.

Michael used hand cast panels of white marble composite into the coffee table and piece of white corian on top of both armrests on sofas in the living room, so the residents of the house don’t need to worry about any spills or wine rings.

The kitchen has a lovely seating area with a fireplace right next to the large window/sliding door to the garden.

The headboard in a master bedroom is almost 3 metres wide and it spreads across the full length of the wall. It was made as 3 separate pieces and assembled right in the bedroom. On either side there is an extremely large bedside table to extend the full length of the room.

Another interesting piece from the master bedroom is the vanity unit. This piece has 4 drawers with a soft close mechanism and 4 shelves on the interior side of each door. Apparently, this piece is the owner’s favourite piece in the entire house!

We liked the combination of this very simple but useful piece with the stool in a trendy pale pink velvet and stainless steel base.

The Study is Michael's favourite room in the whole house. The warmth of the grey timber wall panelling and the silk carpet beautifully pick up the accents of Andy Warhol's artwork. There's a large desk with 3 front drawers and a leather upholstered desk top. We also made storage boxes for the library made of wood and covered with a red fabric in the same shade as the leather on the desk top.

The desk has colour-matching top and tapered metal legs with a flip-up access panel and 3 front drawers in a dark stained Asia Maple finish.

There’s also a very interesting leather bench in the private office; Michael designed this bench with leather webbing that goes around the edge, an interesting detail.

Nice and useful pieces of furniture can be also found in the hallway.

In the playroom, there’s an occasional table made of polished stainless steel and a sofa with orange lacquer legs. Out of shot is a more refined piece, a children’s desk with a polished stainless steel base, black lacquer top and bright orange interior of the 3 front drawers that are colour-matching the sofa legs.

We loved working on this project along with Michael Veal. Every piece that Michael designed makes each room look very contemporary but welcoming at the same time. All pieces are both comfortable and practical and that’s what makes this house unique and surely a great place to live.
